How do I become a member of CAT? What does membership include?
Fill out a membership form online or in person. CAT membership is available to anyone who lives or works in Boone County, Missouri. Annual membership includes: equipment/facilities checkout (training required), one training class (studio camera), access to CAT services (additional costs may apply), program submissions (up to 6 hours/week of content), access to CAT's network of volunteers, CAT email updates, news, opportunities, and support of CAT's mission.
I am a beginner with no training and no experience. Can I join CAT?
Yes, beginners are absolutely welcome. At CAT we have all the tools you will need to go from viewer to producer. Start with a training class.
This sounds too good to be true. What’s the catch?
CAT equipment/facilities must be used for the sole purpose and/or intent of producing programming for CAT. Any video made with CAT equipment/facilities must air on CAT before it is distributed anywhere else. However, all program rights belong to the programʼs Producer/Provider.
I am a Stephens College student / faculty member. Do I have to pay for CAT services?
CAT has a special relationship with Stephens College - our facilities are located on your campus. Stephens students/faculty/staff do not have to pay for CAT membership - simply fill out a membership form. Before using CAT equipment/facilities, you must either take CAT training classes (costs may apply) or “test out” of training. To test out, you must demonstrate that you can use our gear safely and properly. Contact usto make an appointment.
I am an instructor at Stephens College. Can I teach a class in the Studios?
Yes. Stephens College has priority use of the studios from 8am-4:30pm during academic sessions. Please note - all studio reservations are handled by CAT. The Film & Media Department makes block reservations at the beginning of each semester. If you would like to reserve studio time for your class(es), pleasecontact us at least 48 hours in advance. Indicate the date and time of use, nature of use, name of instructor and number of students. Students in the studios must be supervised at all times. Before using CAT equipment/facilities, you must either take CAT training classes (costs may apply) or “test out” of training. To test out, you must demonstrate that you can use our gear safely and properly. Contact us to make an appointment.
Do I have to be a CAT member to take a training class?
Yes, training classes are only available to CAT members.
This looks too expensive for my budget. Am I out of luck?
We recommend finding one or more underwriters. An underwriter is an individual or business that supports your CAT program - with cash, food, costumes, etc. In exchange you can give them screen credit. Recognition is limited to the logo, name, website address, street address, and phone number of the individual or business. Commercial products or services may not be represented. Underwriting credits are limited to no more than 30 seconds for a 1/2 hour program, 60 seconds for an hour-long program.
I have an idea for television show. What now?
Become a member of CAT and fill out a program application. Make sure to read CAT’s Policies & Procedures. Can I submit a program that was produced elsewhere?
Yes, as long as you have all the necessary permissions. Simply indicate on your program application that you are the “provider” of the show.
If I submit a program, does CAT own the copyright?
No. All program rights belong to the programʼs Producer/Provider.
My program may offend some viewers. Will you still air it?
Yes. Programs will not be rejected because they are controversial. CAT does not attempt to verify the accuracy or lack of bias in the programming it carries, nor does CAT attempt to achieve a balance in regards to any issue, faith, or ideology. CAT does not censor programs before transmission. The producer of each program is exercising her/his first amendment right to free speech and is solely responsible for the program's content. By signing the Program Application Form the Producer/Provider accepts all responsibility and any associated liability for the content of the program. Programs without a signed Program Application will not be shown.
I am already trained in production. Can I use CAT gear?

I have my own production gear. Can I film in the Studios?
Yes, but before using CAT facilities you must either take CAT training classes (costs may apply) or “test out” of training. To test out, you must demonstrate that you can use our facilities safely and properly. And remember, CAT facilities must be used for the sole purpose and/or intent of producing programming for CAT. Any video made with CAT equipment/facilities must air on CAT before it is distributed anywhere else.
I am a videographer. Can I use CAT gear for my freelance work?
No. CAT equipment/facilities may not be used for personal gain or work for hire, including but not limited to wedding videography. CAT equipment/facilities must be used for the sole purpose and/or intent of producing programming for CAT.
I want to watch CAT programming. What are my options?
There are many ways to watch CAT. We are on cable television - Mediacom channel 85, Charter channel 21, and CenturyLink channel 603. We have a live webstream of the channel on our website. Our entire archive of locally-produced shows (1450+) is available On Demand & Podcast. If you would like a DVD or MPEG-2 copy of a CAT program, please contact us (copies are $10 each).
